Margaret graduated in medicine at the University of Sydney in 1984 and then trained in surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Following this, Margaret furthered her training in colorectal surgery with clinical fellowships at the Ferguson Clinic in Michigan USA, and the University of Toronto, Canada. Margaret also completed a PhD at the Kolling Institute, with studies on the molecular genetics of colorectal cancer.
Margaret was appointed as Associate Professor in Surgery, the University of Sydney in 1997 and is currently Sub Dean for Surgery at the Northern Clinical School and is a member of the Clinical School executive. In addition, she is one of the MD research coordinators and is Chair of the Education Executive at the Northern Clinical School. Margaret has clinical appointments as a colorectal surgeon at RNSH, North Shore Private Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital. She is an active educator and has clinical and research interests in proctology, pelvic floor function and colorectal cancer.
